Because it feeds on unwanted animals, it nests close to humans and just by its impressive size, the white stork has always played a big role in many cultures and folklores. In ancient Egypt it was associated with ba, the "soul", representing it as a hieroglyph. The hebrew word for this stork was chasidah and derived from chesed, "kindness, mercy", since the bird was thought to be kind and helpful to other members of its species. In Greek and Roman mythology, storks represent a model of devotion for their parents, who don't die of old age but rather fly away towards the islands and take human appearance.

Average lifespan of the stork: 26 years

Cut, shaped, welded and painted entirely by hand at our workshop in Harare. We take great care to achieve resemblance in morphology, color and attitude.
