In January chickadee males look for a good spot to build the future nest. They take their time to find the best place the can and then proceed to mark the boundaries of the territory they consider to be their own. This is why chickadees sing in winter in very visible places: they are indeed trying to let everyone know where the limits of their territory stand. They fly all over it to mark their own space as much as to attract females. So it comes as no surprise to know that chickadees become very hostile and fight any intruders entering their turf. This might well be why they are often regarded as birds with bad temper.

It will stand out in your garden, giving it a touch a color and poetry.
