When a drop of water falls on the leaf, it trickles down to the center of the leaf, taking all the dirt with it. If you watch a leaf under a microscope, you'll notice a myriad of little bumps, whose role is to limit the contact between the water and the leaf. This is a shared property with cabbages, nasturtia leaves and water lilies, although to a lesser extent.
