The young long-tailed tits are taken care of by their relative, but those adults having failed at nesting help others with their children too. This social behavior helps long-tailed tits to survive in winter. By remaining tightly packed against each other on a branch with their feathers all ruffled, these little birds lose only a minimum amount of heat.
